“WHEN YOUR FAMILY SHARES A DEEPER INTIMACY AND RESPECT, PROBLEMS BETWEEN FAMILY MEMBERS SEEM LIGHTER TO BEAR.”
- JOHN GOTTMAN

Family therapy refers to a process where members of a family work with a psychologist to address difficulties experienced by families. These experiences may cause feelings of being disconnected or distant from one another within families. Therefore, one of the key benefits of family therapy is to facilitate communication in a way that members ultimately feel valued as individuals and more connected as families. It also helps members to identify complex dynamics among themselves that are causing conflict, and provides insight and strategies on how to become more harmonious as a whole, as well as improve each member’s contentment.

The duration of a family therapy session is 50 minutes. During your first session, your psychologist will go through any questions and concerns members have regarding the therapy process, and will explain the ways in which he/she will ensure that your discussions remain strictly confidential. Your therapist may also discuss different therapeutic approaches and determine which approach will be most suitable for different families.

Making the decision to go for therapy before there are any visible conflicts or misunderstandings is always commendable. Therapy should not always be considered when there are visible challenges, but instead, while these underlying issues can still easily be identified in subtle behaviours.
